Marriage Isn’t 50/50

We’ve all heard it said: “Marriage is 50/50.” The idea sounds fair — you give half, I give half, and together we make a whole. But the truth is, covenant love doesn’t work that way.

When we measure, we keep score. And keeping score creates distance.

  • I did the dishes, so you owe me dinner.
  • I took the kids yesterday, so you take them today.

But real love — the kind God designed for marriage — is not based on percentages. It’s based on surrender. It’s each spouse showing up with 100%, even when their partner can only give 30 that day.

“Love does not act improperly, or insist on having its own way. Love is not argumentative and doesn’t keep a record of wrongs” — 1 Corinthians 13:5 FBV

Covenant love is about giving all of yourself, not dividing yourself. It’s about leaning on grace when your spouse falls short and trusting they will do the same for you.
